IN-SCHOOL PROGRAMMING
Currently, W.O.R.D. staff are present at James Lyng High School grounds from 11:30 to 4:30 on Tuesdays and Thursdays, with occasional extra sessions on Mondays and Fridays. We open the James Lyng High School studio to interested students during lunch, and for 1.5 hours after school. so they have the opportunity to:
Participate in regular writing, recording, and podcasting workshops;
Contribute to critical discussions about identity, art, and popular culture;
Practice beat making, both independently and within the context of song creation;
Record songs for a yearly mixtape;
Film a music video for one song each year.
Because WORD staff are on-site throughout the day, we are available to help animate music classes, collaborate with school staff, and provide safe, non-judgemental support for youth who seek our aid. Additionally, our established presence within the fabric of the school empowers us to organize university visits and other educational outings for the students. W.O.R.D. participants also have easy access to several CJE-backed initiatives, such as speed-jobbing events, CV workshops, access to counsellors, and tutoring.
