Our Approach

We use youth culture and art as the primary way to connect with young people and combat harmful messages. We tap into our participants’ learning capacities by expanding the scope of their education to include creative endeavours in which they can excel. Additionally, we create an environment predicated on the interests, culture, and comfort of the students–where they can feel respected and understood. W.O.R.D. programming is designed to meet each individual participant at their skill level, so they can develop creatively at their own pace. We support youth in creating their own music, to express themselves, their reality, and have a positive impact on their communities.

W.O.R.D. offers programming for young Montrealers all year long. By using hip-hop music and youth culture as entry points, we aim to boost literacy, encourage staying in high school, build leadership, and foster a creative community for youth in need. This programming is separated into two modules: in-school programming, and the summertime Artist Residency.
